Areas of Research

The CHAT Lab focuses on the connections between social relationships, health, and technology. Our research explores how these domains influence one another and how their intersection shapes social connection and well-being in everyday life.
Psychosocial Aspects of
Chronic Pain
We investigate the psychological and social factors that influence chronic pain, pain management, and quality of life. Research areas include pain communication, peer support, pain invalidation, and interventions that promote health and well-being across diverse contexts and populations.
Social Connection and Wellbeing
We study how relationships shape psychological health, particularly exploring social support, communication, friendship, romantic relationships, and interpersonal processes during times of stress and adversity.
Digital Communication and Well-Being
We examine how established and emerging forms of technology influence communication, relationships, and mental health. Our research here spans social media, online communities, smartphone app use, text messaging, and other forms of digital communication.
