Sage Wiebe, M.A.
I am a second-year PhD student in Clinical Psychology. I recently completed my Master’s thesis under the supervision of Dr. Holtzman, which examined how social anxiety shapes both the perceived and actual effectiveness of social support when delivered in person compared to digitally mediated communication. My current dissertation is a mixed-methods study on pain-related presenteeism in the construction industry, exploring sociocultural, psychological, and workplace-level factors that drive presenteeism, the strategies workers use both on and off the job to sustain it, and the resulting physical and mental health impacts. Beyond this work, my research interests include the health and wellbeing of older adults, particularly those with neurocognitive disorders, and issues of access to care in underserved populations. Ultimately, my goal is to become a registered psychologist practicing in rural and remote communities.

Ph.D. Student | Psychological Science
Carolyn Crawford, M.Sc.
I am a PhD student in the psychological science program at UBCO working under Dr. Holtzman's supervision. I am originally from Ontario, where I completed a Bachelor's degree in biological science and a Master’s degree in cognitive neuroscience at the University of Guelph. I have a special interest in the interplay between physical health conditions (e.g., hearing loss, chronic pain) and psychosocial factors, which contributed to my initial interest in the CHAT Lab! My dissertation research seeks to understand the perceptions and informational needs of people living with chronic pain regarding the therapeutic use of psilocybin. My ultimate goal is to translate insights from this work into an evidence-based educational resource on psilocybin and pain that is freely accessible to the community. In my spare time, I enjoy outdoor adventures (e.g., hiking, cycling, snowboarding) and spending time with my cat, Delilah.
